Pink and Purple Cake

I made this cake for my business class last week. I wanted to have some fun with it and experiment with different techniques. The roses are a different style than I have made before. They are "Duff's Roses" (from Ace of Cakes) since he is the one who came up with the method. They aren't as realistic looking as making them the traditional way, but they are really fast to produce and I think they are pretty cute!

I took the main idea for this cake off one I saw online at cake central. It was very time consuming since I had to roll out each line individually, and was difficult to get consistent results. If I ever make another cake like this again, I think I need to invest in getting a clay gun! I probably could have done this cake in 1/4 of the time and had it come out a lot nicer! I was a little disappointed with it, as I ran out of time and wasn't able to put the finishing touches on it, but oh well, the class loved it :)

More experiment cakes coming soon!!!!

Valentines Day?

Happy Valentines Day all!

To me today wasn't about enjoying a nice night out with my hubby...oh no, it was about preparing for Ayla's birthday! And I loved every minute of it :)

This post was really just an excuse to share my pic of Ayla's birthday cake that I just finished :)

And here are some recent pics of Makayla:

Me: "Ayla, No! Don't hit the cat...."
Ayla points at the cat and gives me the look to which I know she is trying to figure out if it's worth ignoring me...

Ayla hits the cat
and laughs, giving that evil "I did something bad" look.

Another Littlest Pet Shop Cake

This is another LPS cake I made last night. The figures and accents are all done in fondant. The cake is yellow cake filled and iced in buttercream. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :)

Littlest Pet Shop Birthday Cake

Here is my latest cake creation! The birthday girl wanted those three specific littlest pet shop characters on her cake. I tried a new technique to copy the characters called a frozen buttercream transfer and I was really happy with the results! You trace or draw the characters in buttercream onto wax paper, freeze overnight, and than peel off onto the cake. It was so much easier than drawing directly onto the cake, and took the fear of making a mistake away :)

The cake itself was white almond sour cream cake with strawberry mousse (my favorite!). Thanks for looking :)

Eat Cake

Today I made a baby shower cake for a close friends sister. I really enjoyed making it and everyone seemed to really like it at the shower. As I look around for a job since it is near impossible to be a stay at home mom in todays world... I keep thinking this is what I need to do! I know It's something I'm pretty good at, if I can just get my business going... So I have made it my mission! By the end of this year I plan on having my business plan written out. I need a game plan on what I am going to do with my life. I hate the insecurity of the unknown. This week I am going to call the health department and start figuring out what I need to do to become licensed in Rhode Island. Than will be the search for an industrial kitchen to rent until I can get my own shop going. This is something I really need to do for myself!

Here is the cake I made for the shower today. The design was a bit of each element taken off of different cakes and pulled together by the mother-to-be's sister and mom. It's nice to be able to make thier cake vision come to life :)
